Pear Liqueur. Pear-fect (sorry).

So after the rhubarb gin excitement, I found a recipe for pear liqueur which was too tempting to resist.  This is currently “maturing” in my wardrobe so I’ll let you know how it turns out!


1 large pear (I used ‘Sweet Sensation’)

500ml vodka

100g golden caster sugar

1/4 nutmeg crushed into small pieces

6 cloves

1 cinnamon stick

1 jar large enough to comfortably hold your pear and have it covered with vodka


  • Prick the pear all over with a cocktail stick or fine skewer and place in your sterilised jar
  • Add all the other ingredients and pour in the vodka ensuring the pear is completely immersed
  • Keep in a cool dark place for 8 weeks, shaking every day
  • Strain through a cheesecloth and pour into sterilised bottles
